ASO

Antistreptolysin-O (ASO) is a test that measures the levels of Antistreptolysin-O (ASO) in the blood.

ASO is an antibody produced by your body to fight against harmful enzymes produced by a specific type of bacteria called Group A streptococci. The ASO test is used to help determine if a person has a streptococcal infection. It is often conducted in people who present with signs or symptoms of rheumatic fever or glomerulonephritis.

If ASO is present in very low concentrations, the person tested most likely does not have a recent streptococcal infection. On the other hand if the ASO level is high or is rising, it is more likely that a recent streptococcal infection has occurred.
