Fasting blood sugar level

Fasting blood sugar level:

Your doctor will measure the amount of glucose (sugar) in your blood after a period of fasting (when you have not drank or eaten anything for a time period of 6-12 hours before this test).

Normal fasting blood sugar levels are somewhere in the range of 70 to 99 mg/dL. Recall in Diabetes the sugar in your blood is stuck there and this leads to higher amounts than usual in the blood. In medicine doctors use a cut-off of any fasting blood sugar level greater then 126 mg/dL to diagnose Diabetes. However, doctors like to repeat this test to confirm an abnormal result prior to a diagnosis of Diabetes.
