Neisseria Gonorrhoeae Culture (NGC) test detects a type of bacteria called Neisseria gonorrhoeae. The test is performed on body fluid, pus, throat swab, urethral discharge, swab of genital lesions, endocervix, or rectal swab.

This test is used to screen for or to confirm a gonorrhea infection. Gonorrhea is a sexually transmitted disease (STD)/ sexually transmitted infection (STI) that is usually spread from one sexual partner to another during sexual intercourse. This disease may or may not cause symptoms so it is important to talk to your doctor about testing for this and other sexually transmitted diseases (STDs)/sexually transmitted infections (STIs)if you are sexually active.
