UIBC

Unsaturated iron-binding capacity (UIBC)is a test used to determine the levels of iron in the blood. This test is ordered when Iron deficiency or Iron overload are suspected.

High Unsaturated iron-binding capacity (UIBC) results show a deficiency of iron in blood. Signs and symptoms of iron deficiency may include such things as dizziness/light-headedness, headache, weakness/fatigue, pallor (pale skin), or microcytic anemia (low red blood cell count).

Low UIBC results often meands there is an overload of iron in blood. Symptoms of iron overload may include joint pains, lack of energy, loss of sex drive, and heart problems.
