Urine Protein to Creatinine Ratio (UPCR) is used to detect excessive protein levels in the urine, to determine how well the kidneys are functioning, and to detect any damage to the kidneys.

This test can be conducted as part of a routine physical or when a disorder or disease is suspected that can affect the kidneys. Levels of protein can increase in the urine when the kidneys do not perform normally, due to diabetes, due to infection, some emotional or physical stress, or vigorous exercise.
