Amoxicillin is an antibiotic and is used to treat bacterial infections.  Amoxicillin is most commonly used to treat such things as ear infections, pneumonia, bladder infections, and gonorrhea. It can also be used in combination with other drugs to treat stomach ulcers.

Amoxicillin is available in oral liquid form as well as in tablet form. You should take this medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor and for the full duration as prescribed unless side effects are exprienced and you are instructed to discontinue use by your doctor.  Symptoms may improve before the infection has been fully cured.

Amoxicillin is not effective against viral infections.
