Singulair

Singulair is a medication used to prevent and treat asthma in adults and children. It can also be used to relieve runny nose and sneezing caused by allergies in adults and children or to prevent exercise-induced bronchoconstriction (narrowing of the air passages in the lungs).

Singular may take up to several weeks of use before symptoms start to show improvement.  Because of this, Singular is not what is called a "rescue medication" for asthma.  That means that it does not work fast enough to treat an asthma attack that has already begun.  For more immediate improvement of airway constriction (narrowing) that leads to trouble breathing, medications called beta agonists, such as albuterol, should be used.
